Rule of Law Challenges in Guatemala and Honduras

Taking recent events in Guatemala and Honduras as a starting point (including the investigation for corruption of the former President and Vice-President of Guatemala, and a wave of civic mobilisation against impunity across both countries), this paper analyses a number of rule of law challenges for the road ahead. The paper considers issues such as access to justice, judicial independence and appointments, as well as the role of organised crime.
