Investor Roundtable: Modern Slavery Data for Investor Action
Event details
As part of the Modern Slavery and Human Rights Policy and Evidence Centre, the Bingham Centre for the Rule of Law and the Alan Turing Institute are working on a project focused on how to ensure investors and asset managers have access to high-quality, accurate data on modern slavery risks in investment portfolios.
The project aims to:
- scope the relevant types of data source,
- review analytical methods and strategies for extracting actionable insights from data,
- consider ways of presenting such insights in practical and scalable ways to investment decision-makers, in order to inform selection decisions or company engagement activities and other aspects of active ownership strategies.
This project focuses on the role of investors in solving modern slavery. Obtaining high-quality, accurate data on modern slavery prevalence and risk and providing better data to those making investment decisions, who sometimes might be unknowingly supporting slavery, is essential for addressing the issue in global supply chains. This topic is growing in importance, given the increased interest in the environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) and responsible investing, as well as growing threat of penalties from government action and relative neglect of the information needs of investment decision-makers to date.
This is our second roundtable following a first Expert Roundtable .This roundtable is bringing together investors to hear directly from their experience.
