Event Details

Join us for an interactive workshop to discuss key issues in the development, scrutiny, communication and enforcement of emergency public health restrictions, in light of recommendations from the Independent Commission on UK Public Health Emergency Powers and the UK Covid-19 Inquiry.

The event will consist of four sessions with speakers from the Commission and beyond (full speaker list tbc):

  1. The benefits of parliamentary scrutiny in public health emergencies and key issues to be considered in the review of the Civil Contingencies Act 2004
  2. Matters to consider when deciding if restrictions should be imposed via legislation (with enforcement action) or public health advice
  3. How the Commission's proposed amendments balance human rights with health protection and how to communicate this to frontline staff and the public
  4. Key lessons from other countries' responses to the Covid-19 pandemic
