July 2023 Update

Image: Peace One Day – Justice Live! Event

Dear Friends,

We are delighted to bring you a bumper edition of video content, in which you can catch up on recent Bingham Centre events discussing ways to address many of the broad Rule of Law issues of our time - from a speech by the prominent UK lawyer-politician David Lammy to a series of interviews with legal experts and activists we helped to curate for the Peace One Day Justice Live! programme.

While it can be encouraging to consider the big picture highlighted by these speakers, we cannot overlook specific and gravely concerning developments such as the recent passage of the UK's Illegal Migration Act with its drastic incursions into existing frameworks of human rights law, access to justice and the international system of refugee protection. The Act also profoundly affects the fight against modern slavery, as we report in this Update.

You will also find news below from many of the Bingham Centre's longer-term projects and programmes. We wish Northern Hemisphere readers a restful summer break and look forward to bringing you our next Update in September.
