Public and Youth Engagement Hub
At the Bingham Centre, our public and youth engagement work empowers the public, and especially young people, to act as advocates, defenders and critical friends of the rule of law, equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to become active, participatory citizens.
We seek to strengthen the rule of law as a foundation of constitutional democracy, by countering scepticism and misinformation about it, highlighting its essential contribution to good governance, public safety, human rights and economic growth, and engaging in constructive discussion about how the rule of law can better serve the needs and protect the rights of all in society.
We do this in a number of ways, including:
- Advocating for school curricula and educational programmes to ensure that the rule of law is taught effectively, and contributing to evaluation methods and good practice development in the wider public legal education sector;
- Producing and sharing rule of law resources, from courses to short videos, for the general public and for specific audiences such as secondary school age children;
- Delivering workshops for young people in schools;
- Providing training and support to teachers and other facilitators of public legal education, including citizenship and civic education.
